Tri Color and Blenheim are commonly referred to as parti or broken colors.
Breeding color genetics
When you breed Tri Color to Tri Color you will most likely receive all Tri Color unless both parents are Ee:ss, and in this case you can receive both Blenheim or Tri Color puppies.
When you breed Tri Color to Blenheim you can receive both Tri Color or Blenheim puppies.
Tri Color to Ruby can yield all four colors if the Ruby carries the white gene.
The genetic makeup of a Black and Tan is the most difficult to determine, but if the Black and Tan carries the white gene then all 4 colors are possible.
Color faults include ticking or freckling of tiny black spots on the white areas. As Tri Colors age from puppies to adulthood the freckling/ticking can become more prominant with age. A freckle here or there on a well broken up white background is tollerated. Tri Colors need to have a thick blaze up their forehead as a puppy because this blaze does narrow in Tri Colors significantly with age. Most experienced breeders will NOT place a Tri Color show potential puppy because most breeders understand that getting a good Tri Color must be bred and not purchased since they are that difficult to acquire.
