I have gone to social gatherings, obedience trials, training classes, parks, and many public places where I have run into a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and many times I am bothered by the appearance of the Cavalier. Many times the coat is rough, does not look like it has ever seen a brush, and the coat looks so heavy that it is weighing the poor dog down. Many times the Cavalier is also overweight. I can easily tell that the owner absolutely loves their Cavalier to pieces, but has no realization to the real condition their Cavalier is actually in. I then think to myself if this is what I see just looking down at the Cavalier what other areas does this poor Cavalier have issues with like toe nails, anal sacs, teeth cleaning, etc. If you find it difficult to give your Cavalier a bath at least once a month then I strongly recommend finding a professional groomer and have your Cavalier groomed once a month. A professional groomer will clip their toe nails ($7.50 value at my vet), expell their anal sacs ($7.50 value at my vet) along with a bath and complete brush and blow dry and since Cavaliers do not need to be trimmed you can usually get it for $20-$25 a month. I cannot tell you how much healthier your Cavalier will be and the added years you may give your Cavalier because your Cavalier will be healthier. You will also enjoy holding your Cavalier more because their coat will be so soft and easy to run your fingers through when you are petting your Cavalier.
